Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, maintained that the FCRA Amendment Bill is only aimed at stopping the use of foreign funds against national security and interests and is not targeted at any religious organisations.
Speaking to reporters at the BJP headquarters, Mr. Rijiju harshly criticized the Congress and the Left parties, accusing them of spreading lies about the proposed amendment to the FCRA.
The senior BJP leader added that his claims about the Bill were “completely false, fabricated and misleading”.

A bill to amend the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act was introduced in the Lok Sabha on March 25, and the government has made it clear that individuals who engage in forced conversion through foreign funding will not be spared.
Union Home Minister Nityanand Rai, while introducing the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, had stated that the legislation aims to increase transparency and ensure proper use of funds received from abroad.
When asked about the opposition’s allegations about the bill, Mr. Rijiju said, “Some rumors are being spread by the Communist party and the Congress in Kerala that the Indian government has brought the FCRA amendment bill to stop the activities of various religious organisations.” The Minister for Minority Affairs maintained that the proposed amendment bill has been introduced “solely to regulate foreign funds into India and to check misuse of funds in any illegal activities”.
“The money comes in illegally and is used against national security. So, the proposed changes have been introduced in the name of national security and national interests.”
Mr. Rijiju alleged that the Left parties and the Congress were spreading lies about the proposed changes in the Bill as they feared that the BJP would get massive support from people in Kerala ahead of the State Assembly elections.
“I strongly reject the rumors spread by Congress and Communist parties, especially in Kerala. Congress and communists are spreading lies,” the senior BJP leader said. “The law is not against any religious group… They should stop spreading such lies,” he said.
