India welcomes US-Iran peace deal, NSA Doval says pact brings ‘cautious optimism’
Speaking at the 16th BRICS National Security Advisors Meeting, National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval said, “India welcomes the MoU reached between the US and Iran. We are cautiously optimistic and hope it will work. It will help energy security.”
He added that the opening of the Strait of Hormuz is a very pleasing development as it will eliminate bottlenecks in the supply chain and close many gaps in the field of fertilizers and chemicals.
“And the freedom of navigation that would be provided to countries in the region and beyond would likely greatly increase our economic prosperity,” Doval said. he added.
NSA emphasized that India must be aware of new security threats and challenges as non-traditional threats transcend national borders and develop systems of defeat against conventional responses.
“Innovative disruptive technologies, more camouflaged forms of terrorism, cyber threats are becoming increasingly digital in the world. All of them pose a significant threat to us,” he said, adding that BRICS NSAs will tackle some of these non-traditional security challenges at collective talks in New Delhi.
