Indian Astronomer Captures Mesmerising View Of Comet Lemmon Lighting Up Ladakh’s ‘Quiet Skies,’ WATCH | World News

A Celestial Spectacle in Ladakh: The serene skies of Hanle, Ladakh recently came alive with a dazzling cosmic show. Indian astronomer Dorje Angchuk captured a breathtaking video of Comet Lemmon, whose bright green tail cuts through the night like a brushstroke of starlight. The clip shared on social media quickly fascinated both stargazers and astronomy enthusiasts.
“Even in the calm skies of Hanle, Comet Lemmon shares the stage with the ever-increasing traces of human presence,” Angchuk, an engineer at the Hanle Indian Astronomical Observatory, wrote in his post accompanying the video.

Officially discovered by the Mount Lemmon Probe on January 3, 2024, Comet Lemmon has been steadily moving through our solar system, growing brighter with each passing week. According to NASA, the comet is currently heading towards the inner Solar System and is expected to pass by the Sun on November 8, after making its closest approach to Earth on October 21.
Although it is often difficult to predict the brightness of comets, NASA remains optimistic. “Comet Lemmon may become visible to the naked eye,” the agency said, adding that it will be most visible in the pre-dawn sky by mid-October, then move into the evening sky later in the month.
Astronomers predict that the comet could reach magnitude 4 between October 31 and November 1, which would make it one of the most spectacular skywatching events of the season.

A third added: “The magic of everyone who went to Hanle will always be etched in their hearts forever.”
A Reminder of Cosmic Beauty
Known for crystal clear skies and minimal light pollution, Hanle remains one of India’s best places for astronomical observations. Through Angchuk’s lens, the world saw not just a passing comet, but a moment that captured the infinite wonder of the universe; It was a reminder that even in silence the universe always speaks.
