India’s Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra discussed the threats posed by terrorism worldwide in his meeting with the US’s top counter-terrorism official Sebastian Gorka.

“Had an engaging conversation with @SebGorka Deputy Assistant to the President and National Security Council Senior Director for Counterterrorism,” Mr. Kwatra said in a post published on X on Sunday, June 7, 2026.

“We shared perspectives on terrorism threats and our counter-terrorism cooperation outlined in the India-US Joint Statement of February 2025,” Mr. Kwatra said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump in February last year reaffirmed the need to combat the global scourge of terrorism and remove safe havens of terrorists from every corner of the world.

“They committed to strengthen cooperation against terrorist threats from groups such as Al Qaeda, ISIS, Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Tayyiba, in order to prevent heinous acts such as the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and the Abbey Gate bombing in Afghanistan on 26 August 2021,” the joint statement, issued after Mr. Modi met with Mr. Trump on Feb. 13, 2025, said.

The USA also announced that Tahawwur Rana, the mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack, was extradited.

Mr Trump and Mr Modi had also called on Pakistan to swiftly bring to justice the perpetrators of 26/11 and the 2016 Pathankot air base attack and ensure that its territory is not used for cross-border terrorism.

The joint statement dated February 2025 said the leaders also pledged to work together to prevent the spread of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems and prevent terrorists and non-state actors from accessing them.
