Indian victim in Jeffrey Epstein files: New DOJ documents reveal support efforts and billionaire links | India News

A shocking revelation from the newly unsealed ‘Epstein Files’ has confirmed for the first time the existence of an Indian victim within the late billionaire Jeffrey Epstein’s notorious sex trafficking network. The documents, released by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) in late January 2026, include internal communications and emails that show American officials were actively trying to locate the woman in India to provide compensation and support for her mental health.

‘January 2020’ email: Tracing a survivor in India

This breakthrough came from an email dated January 13, 2020. It was shared between U.S. government officials and Brittany Henderson, an attorney at Edwards Pottinger LLC, who represents several Epstein survivors.

request: Henderson asked if a particular survivor currently living in India could receive “six free therapy sessions” and other resources available to survivors in the United States.

Response: U.S. officials responded by requesting the victim’s contact information. They stated that they would coordinate with the US Embassy in India to help him apply for the New York Crime Victims Compensation program.

Issued ID: To protect his privacy, the victim’s name and specific location in India remain in public files.

Epstein Files Transparency Act (EFTA) 2025

The disclosure is a result of the Epstein Files Transparency Act signed by President Donald Trump in November 2025. The law required the Justice Department to release nearly all records related to investigations into Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell.

The massive data dump in January 2026 includes:

  • 3.5 million pages of documents and emails.
  • More than 2,000 videos and 180,000 images.
  • Details about the “New York Office of Victim Services”, which works to provide emergency financial assistance to international victims.

Indian connections and political fallout

The files sent shockwaves through the Indian political landscape. Beyond the victim’s name, the documents reference several high-profile Indian names and incidents.

Current research status

While US authorities have attempted to provide therapy and compensation to the Indian victim through diplomatic channels, there has been no official statement by the Indian government regarding a separate domestic investigation into Epstein’s domestic network.

In their statement on February 16, 2026, UN human rights experts criticized the heavily redacted nature of some of the statements. They argued that these still protected powerful abusers while overshadowing victims.
