India‘s textile and apparel exports degrow by -2.22% in FY 26: Govt Data

Pune: A year after the US imposed high customs duties, India’s cumulative textile and apparel exports in FY26 registered a growth of -2.21% over the previous fiscal, while exports in March contracted by -14.02% on an annual basis, according to export data released by the Ministry of Commerce.

A data analysis by trade body Confederation of Indian Textile Industries showed that during FY26, India recorded a growth of -2.86% in textile exports over the previous year, while garment exports recorded a growth of -1.36% during the same period.

In March 2026, India’s textile exports recorded a contraction of -9.91% compared to the previous year, while ready-made garment exports registered a significant growth of -18.99% during the same period.

In March 2026, cumulative textile and apparel exports recorded a contraction of -14.02% on an annual basis.
However, raw cotton imports increased by approximately 54.99% in FY26 as India eased import duties for approximately 4 months from 28 August 2025 to 31 December 2025.
