Indian Railways is on the verge of a revolutionary change with the launch of Vande Bharat Sleeper Train. According to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is expected to be put into service by December 2025. The minister clarified that the launch will take place only after the second train is fully ready for normal service. Vaishnaw said, “The second train is being produced and will probably be ready on October 15, 2025. Both trains will run together. The second train is important for the continuity of regular services. Therefore, we are waiting for the second commission. After receiving it, we will decide on any route and start operations.”
Production and maintenance
The high-speed rail is produced by three companies: BEML, Kinet Railway Solutions (a joint venture between RVNL and TMH of Russia) and a consortium of Titagarh Rail Systems Limited and BHEL. These companies are tasked with designing and manufacturing modern, energy-efficient coaches that provide passengers with a comfortable journey.
Itineraries and fares
The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is expected to operate on various routes including Delhi-Patna, Delhi-Ahmedabad and Delhi-Bhopal. Train fares are expected to be competitive with other premium trains such as Rajdhani Express. According to estimates, fares for the Pune-Delhi route may range between Rs 3,200 to Rs 5,500 depending on the class of service.
