Indore Metro Rail Project Revised To Rs 19,472.29 Crore, Gets Approval By Mohan Yadav Cabinet

-Bhopal: The cost of the Indore metro rail project has been revised to Rs 19,472.29 billion from the original approved project cost of Rs 7,500.80 billion.

While explaining the cost increase of the project, officials said that over time, revisions and additional regulations were integrated into the plan approved by the Center in 2018, and the total financing package was expanded to meet the demands for new infrastructure and underground construction.

The state cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of chief minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday, approved the revised Indore metro rail project budget.

In the first phase, the Indore metro rail service has covered six kilometers and has become commercially operational and the 11-kilometre second phase of the project is likely to be finalized by June 20, officials said.

Since the first phase of the project was launched on May 31, 2025, the service has recorded a low average ridership, attracting only 2.5 lakh passengers in the first year.

However, the expanded second phase project is expected to provide stable public transport demand and financial sustainability as it will have access to Indore’s CBD, officials said.

The cost of the revised Indore metro rail project is part of the Rs 24,200 billion proposals approved by the state cabinet.

Another important project approved by the state cabinet was the “Tiger and Elephant Project” worth 2,381.15 billion rupees.

The project envisaged the protection and rehabilitation of wildlife and compensation for 94 villages located in sensitive areas.
