Injury update on Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford with England pair managing fitness issues ahead of Ghana clash

Bukayo Saka is unlikely to be ready to start England’s next match against Ghana, with Marcus Rashford also dealing with a minor issue.

Rashford came off the bench in Wednesday’s 4-2 win over Croatia and impressed as he scored his side’s final goal.

However, we understand that he felt something in his hip area and did not play in England’s 5-1 defeat of Sporting Kansas City in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Thursday.

The issue is not thought to be serious, but it could mean Anthony Gordon will continue on the left wing in Boston on Tuesday.

Thomas Tuchel also likes players like Rashford to impress from the bench and rather than listen to the clamor for him to start, the head coach will see value in his quality against tired legs.

Harry Kane left AT&T Stadium with a strap on his left calf, but we were told it was cramp-related. He will be in good shape in the second group match.

Meanwhile, Tuchel will keep Saka on the bench until the last group match at the earliest. He assisted Rashford’s goal in Dallas but was not on the training ground the next day.

Saka is still improving his fitness following Achilles’ complaint and Noni Madueke is in line to retain his place on the right wing.

Ivan Toney scored another hat-trick against Sporting KC, following his treble against Miami FC a week ago. Others targeted were Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins.

Marc Guehi also played and is pushing for a starting XI recall after Tuchel played Ezri Konsa and John Stones at centre-back against Croatia.
