The Sussexes are expected to arrive in England in less than a week, following months of negotiations between Montecito and Buckingham Palace. But an unresolved row over taxpayer-funded security suddenly left the visit ‘up in the air’.

In recent days, Harry was said to be completely reconsidering the trip due to concerns that RAVEC, the Home Office committee responsible for royal protection, would not be able to provide an adequate level of security for Meghan and her children Archie and Lilibet.

This followed Harry’s defeat at the Court of Appeal in May 2025; Harry has lost his appeal against a decision to automatically deprive him of taxpayer-funded security after he steps back from royal duties.

He explained: ‘I went to the Sussexes’ camp on Thursday to tell them what my story for the trip would be and to offer me the chance to come back.

‘They didn’t. But what they did was to issue an operational memo to their favorite reporters on Friday, telling them exactly what happened on each day of the visit.

‘The problem was that the next day the tires went flat. They began to guide by saying: “Oh, Harry now thinks he might never come.”

‘It all fell on their ears in an uneducational, chaotic and misinformed way.’

Boshoff said the real victims of the chaos were the charities that King Charles and Harry would now support at questionable events.

One of the reasons for Harry’s July visit was to represent the Invictus Games, as he plans to secure funding ahead of the 2027 games in Birmingham.

‘This has had a really big impact on the charities that Harry has confirmed he will support on this visit,’ Boshoff said.

‘They have expensive planned events and what’s more, these are events that are absolutely key to securing future funding.

‘They need to raise a lot of money, they need to attract some patrons and serious corporate people to sponsor these events.

‘It’s all up in the air now, so I think it’s extremely unhelpful and I feel sorry for them on a human level.’

Daily Mail Editor-in-Chief stated that the King, whose only purpose was to extend an olive branch to his stray son, was in an extraordinarily difficult situation.

He even accused the Sussex side of giving false information that the King had agreed to intervene personally and provide them with the security they wanted; The Palace insists this is not within the King’s authority.

“This was completely wrong,” Boshoff said.

‘From the Sussex side, this seems like wishful thinking. It’s a very difficult situation, the agreement with the King and the security is that he cannot and will not intervene.

‘What you’re seeing here looks very much like an attempt to manipulate this situation.

‘This is a really jealous position for the King because he’s trying to get out of this locked situation where Harry and Meghan feel victimised.

‘He’s trying to pick the lock and it’s absolutely impossible. This is the opposite of being well organized and coordinated.’
