Iran declares peace talks NOT happening after Trump claims they’re crawling back
Donald Trump claimed Iran wants peace talks tomorrow, but Tehran has publicly denied the existence of any meeting after the two sides exchanged gunfire over the weekend.
Iran requested a meeting. It will take place tomorrow in DOHA!’ Trump posted on Truth Social on Monday.
But minutes before Trump made the statement, Iran’s deputy foreign minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, told state television: ‘No technical meetings regarding the working groups are planned for this week.’
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the United States plans to send Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to lead the talks.
Trump’s claims of a peace talk come after both countries exchanged rocket fire that threatened to destroy fragile nuclear talks aimed at ending the war.
The violence broke out last week after Iran unleashed one-way suicide drones on US-backed cargo ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway that carries roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply.
The US military responded by destroying Iran’s missile and drone depots, as well as radar sites in the Persian Gulf.
“Violence will be met with violence… There have been attacks on merchant ships, and the United States, led by the President, responded,” Leavitt said.

Trump’s peace speech claims came after both countries exchanged rocket fire and massacres over the weekend.
Global oil prices rose marginally, with global benchmark Brent crude rising 0.74 percent to $72.60 per barrel.

In upcoming negotiations, US diplomats are demanding that the regime abandon its nuclear ambitions and hand over its enriched uranium stockpiles.
In addition to jointly controlling the Strait of Hormuz, Iran wants the US to thaw billions of frozen assets in the Middle East.
Since the start of the war, Iran has managed to close the Strait of Hormuz by deploying speedboats, drones and naval mines.
A media outlet affiliated with Iran’s militant Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the country had no choice but to develop a nuclear bomb.
An article titled ‘There is no option but to build an atomic bomb’ appeared in Iranian state news, arguing that the regime should negotiate with the US from a position of strength.
The article states, ‘In order to ensure the peace and tranquility Iran needs, it must acquire nuclear deterrence so that the remaining problems can be resolved through negotiations.’
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed last week promised Iran to make ‘best efforts for the safe passage of commercial ships for 60 days’.
