As the conflict in West Asia intensifies, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, that India “strongly reiterates its call for dialogue and diplomacy” and “urged all parties to exercise restraint, avoid escalation and prioritize the safety of civilians”.

Pointing out that the intensity of the conflicts has increased, MEA said in its statement: “Unfortunately, the situation in the region has deteriorated significantly and continuously during the holy month of Ramadan.”

The statement said, “In recent days, we are witnessing not only the intensification of the conflict but also its spread to other nations. Destruction and deaths are increasing while normal life and economic activities come to a halt. As a close neighbor with critical interests in the security and stability of the region, these developments cause great concern.”

Calling for the safety of Indians in Iran and the Gulf countries, he said, “There are almost one million Indian citizens living and working in the Gulf region. Their safety and well-being comes first. We cannot remain indifferent to any development that will negatively affect them.”

On the impact of the war on trade and supply chains, the MEA said India is firmly against attacks on merchant ships. “Our trade and energy supply chains also pass through this geography. Any major disruption has serious consequences for the Indian economy. As a country whose citizens stand out in the global workforce, India firmly opposes attacks on commercial ships. Some Indian citizens have already lost their lives or disappeared as a result of such attacks in the last few days.”

MEA said, “India strongly reiterates its call for dialogue and diplomacy. We openly raise our voice in favor of an immediate end to the conflict. Many lives have already been sadly lost and we express our sorrow in this regard.”

It was also stated that Indian Embassies and Consulates in the affected countries are in close contact with Indian citizens and community organizations and are providing regular advice as appropriate. “All possible assistance has also been provided to those trapped by the conflict. Embassies and Consulates will continue to be proactive in addressing the various consular aspects of this conflict,” the statement said.

“The Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs held talks with their counterparts. The government will continue to closely monitor the developing situation and take relevant decisions in line with the national interest,” MEA said.
