Iran has sent another chilling threat to Donald Trump as fears of a new conflict rise. Ali Abdullahi Aliabadi, commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters of the Iranian Armed Forces, said the country was ready to “give a definitive response” to any “violation of promises” by the United States.
Iran has said it will not allow the “deceitful and delusional” US President to “abuse or misrepresent the situation” during a two-week ceasefire that ends on Wednesday, according to the Fars news agency. Aliabadi also warned that Tehran would respond “decisively, firmly and immediately” to any threat or ceasefire violation from the United States.
He said: “The heroic nation of Iran is today proud of the strength, preparedness and comprehensive strategic capabilities of the Revolutionary Guard and other forces defending the homeland, which have driven the Zionist enemy and terrorist America to despair and exhaustion with deadly and devastating missile and drone attacks, forcing them to humbly request a ceasefire.
“The Iranian people did not give up their support for the armed forces with their enthusiastic and widespread presence in the squares and streets.
“Iran’s brave armed forces are united with its government and the honorable, magnificent nation of Iran, and are fully prepared to respond decisively, decisively and promptly to threats and actions of the enemy, in full obedience to the directives of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
“The Armed Forces, with the upper hand, will not allow the deceptive and delusional US President to abuse or misrepresent the situation on the ground amid a lull in military conflicts, especially regarding the management and control of the Strait of Hormuz, and will competently respond to any violations of the agreement.”
Washington and Tehran agreed on the evening of April 7 to a two-week ceasefire that would require the warring nations to reach an agreement by Tuesday, April 21.
However, since Iranian officials have not yet committed to sending a delegation to Islamabad, the President gave negotiators an additional day to reach an agreement.
Speaking to Bloomberg on the phone on Monday, Trump said, “I’m not going to rush to make a bad deal. We have all the time in the world,” adding that he expects conflicts to continue if peace talks fail. “If there is no deal, I would definitely wait.”
