Iranian missiles could target these seven UK sites | UK | News

Defense Secretary refuses to rule out Iran attacking UK mainland (Image: AFP)
Britain’s Defense Secretary tried to calm fears by stressing that no attack on British soil was believed to be planned, but refused to give clear assurances that Iran did not have the firepower to hit Britain.
John Healey was pressed repeatedly in his Sky News interview on the question of whether London could be within range of Iranian missiles; It was a line of question Healey posed carefully, without outright denial.
“We have no assessment of Iran’s plan to strike London,” he said.
The shift comes after Iran launched a missile at Diego Garcia, a remote atoll in the Indian Ocean that also serves as a joint British and American military facility. Healey has previously told Parliament that incoming tours are lagging far behind the island.
And so, when the danger of Iranian missiles raining down on the UK is not ignored by the government, the question of exactly which places are at risk comes into sharp focus.

Is London at risk?
Military analysts are not as reassuring as the Minister of Defense. Both the Israel Defense Forces and the Institute for the Study of War placed London within what they described as a theoretical 2,500-mile danger radius; this was the outer range of Iran’s most advanced modified medium-range ballistic missiles, which included the Khorramshahr-4.
UK facilities at high risk due to Iran conflict
The following places have been selected by analysts to face an increasing threat environment directly linked to active hostilities between the West and Iran in 2026:
RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire — The airport currently serves as the main launch point in Britain for US Air Force strategic bombers (including B-1B Lancers and B-52 Stratofortresses) conducting operations against Iranian missile sites, putting it at the top of Iran’s target list.
Portsmouth and Devonport, Plymouth – Two of Britain’s most important naval addresses: they dock around two-thirds of the Royal Navy’s warships between the two, making them obvious candidates for any attack aimed at crippling British naval power.
GCHQ, Cheltenham — The donut-shaped complex, the nerve center of Britain’s signals intelligence and cyber defense operations, would represent a high-value target for any adversary seeking to blind rather than destroy.
RAF Fylingdales, North Yorkshire — The Moorland radar station performs a function that makes it irreplaceable in any missile conflict: it tracks incoming ballistic projectiles from the moment of launch. This is exactly why the BBC identified it as a primary counterforce target.
Barrow-in-Furness – The Cumbrian shipyard where Britain’s nuclear submarines are being shaped was considered by analysts to be in an uncomfortable position; Remarkably significant, but described as ‘woefully vulnerable’ to the kind of long-range attack Iran might now consider.

UK facilities targeted for their strategic and nuclear value
Another group of locations derives its threat profile not specifically from the current conflict but from the enduring strategic weight that houses the UK’s nuclear capability, main naval base and defense supply chain:
Faslane, HMNB Clyde – Scotland’s deep-water naval base on the Clyde is the permanent home of Britain’s Trident-armed submarines; It is the physical embodiment of the UK’s nuclear deterrent.
Telford, MOD Donnington — The inland, no-frills Shropshire warehouse nevertheless forms the basis of the logistics chain that keeps the British armed forces equipped and operational.
For now, Healey’s stance stands: no plan, no imminent threat, no need to panic. However, according to analysts’ threat assessments, the margin of assurance is narrowing as Iranian missiles are already in the air over the Indian Ocean and London.
