Iran’s leader warns ‘Death to America’ remains Tehran’s objective in chilling threat | World | News
Iran’s Supreme Leader has issued a chilling warning to the West, warning that “Death to America” and “Death to Israel” “will continue to be the slogan of the Islamic Ummah.”
Mojtaba Khamenei also warned that Israel will not exist in 15 years. He added: “The region will not return to past conditions and Washington will no longer have a safe place to maintain military bases in the region.”
He also said in his latest state television message that countries in the region could no longer act as “shields” for US bases.
“What is certain about this is that time will not turn back, and the nations and lands of the region will no longer serve as a shield for American bases,” he said.
Khamenei also said: “In different parts of Iran and the world, after these holy days, ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel’ will become the common slogan of the Islamic Ummah and the oppressed people of the world, especially the youth.”
U.S. Central Command spokesman Capt. Tim Hawkins said the action was taken “to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces.”
US broadcaster CBS News “U.S. intelligence indicates that Khamenei is effectively hiding in an undisclosed location with little access to the outside world, and can only be reached by a maze of couriers,” according to U.S. officials with knowledge of the matter.
Khamenei has not appeared in public since he was appointed to replace his father, Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a joint US-Israeli attack on February 28. Khamenei is thought to have been injured during the US strikes and did not record a video or voice message as he reportedly did not want to appear vulnerable.
