Looking back at what she described as one of the most difficult phases of her life, Kangana Ranaut recalled the turmoil of 2016 amid her legal dispute with Hrithik Roshan. The multiple National Award-winning actress shared on Instagram that this year coincided with a sharp rise in her career after back-to-back successes with Queen and Tanu Weds Manu Returns, which made her one of the highest-paid actresses at that time, but also shared that her life turned into “hell” following a “controversial legal notice”.

Sharing a series of throwback photos from a decade ago, Kangana wrote, “Why is everyone suddenly missing 2016? It was the inevitable upswing of my career trajectory; back-to-back blockbusters like Queen and Tanu getting married. With Manu’s comeback, I became the highest-paid actor.”

But the actor said his professional rise was overshadowed when he received a controversial legal notice from a colleague in January 2016, which he claims deeply affected his personal and professional life. “But in January 2016, one of my colleagues sent me the controversial legal notice that shook the industry and divided it into insiders and outsiders. Success was poisoned and life became a living hell. Parties were taken and many more legal battles followed.” The controversy escalated after Kangana referred to Hrithik as a “stupid ex” during an interview. This revelation triggered a series of legal notices, followed by counter-claims regarding the leak of private emails and impersonation.

He said in 2016 that he would not have suffered so much if he had known that the debates would no longer matter by 2026. “If I had known ten years ago that in 2026 I would be eating carbohydrates for all my meals, laughing a lot, and that the events of 2016 would not mean anything to anyone in a few years’ time, I honestly would not have been so miserable then. Thank God it is not 2016 and we are in 2026,” concluded the BJP MP.
