IS-linked families to return to Australia; Labor announces gas reservation policy; Possible Jeffrey Epstein suicide note unsealed by US federal judge
Earlier today we brought you news of the Albanian government’s major gas market intervention; Energy Minister Chris Bowen announced that exporters will have to keep 20 per cent of their gas supply onshore in a bid to reduce prices and prevent future shortages.
Now, Australia’s peak manufacturing body has welcomed the move. In a statement released this afternoon, Manufacturing Australia chief executive Ben Eade described the booking plan as “the most significant structural reform to Australia’s gas market in a generation”.
Affordable and safe gas is critical for manufacturing investment, energy security and the transition to renewable energy, the industry group said, arguing that high domestic prices have undermined confidence for years.
It also said previous governments had rejected similar changes that would “hurt Australian manufacturing jobs and investment”.
The policy, which is expected to start in 2027, is being framed by Labor as a once-in-a-generation change to the east coast gas market.
