ISI’s Dhaka Cell Behind Bangladesh Violence, Eyes West Bengal, Northeast | World News

The intervention of the Dhaka Cell, a unit created by the ISI in Bangladesh, comes after major violence broke out in the country this week.
The Dhaka Cell was created under the Pakistan High Commission to oversee the clearance of terrorists and radicals, especially in Bangladesh. But the larger intent is specific to India.
An Intelligence Bureau official says the Dhaka Cell is no ordinary unit. The cell was formed following the visit of Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Committee Chairman General Sahir Shamshad Mirza to Dhaka a few months ago.

Indian agencies have learned that the unrest in Bangladesh following the staged murder of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi was planned by the Dhaka Cell.
It was also learned that the Dhaka Cell had been planning a large-scale unrest since its establishment in October. One official added that they were just waiting for the right timing to stage the violence and the plan was put into action as soon as it became clear that the elections would be held in February 2026.
Dhaka Cell is similar to the cell formed by ISI in Sri Lanka. The cell in Sri Lanka was also operating from the Pakistan High Commission and its aim was to create terror modules in South India.
It had also moved prices along with many terrorist agents scouting in Chennai and other places. However, this module was busted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2014.
The cell in Bangladesh consists of officers from the Pakistani armed forces. These include officers of the Pakistan Air Force and Navy, as well as a brigadier general, a colonel and four majors.
An official said that the cell was formed to carry out a long-pending plan of the creation of Pakistan.
Since the ouster of Sheikh Hasina and the takeover of the caretaker government of Mohammed Younis, the ISI started planning the return of pre-1971 Bangladesh.
Pakistan’s armed forces have still not recovered from the humiliation they faced during the War of Liberation, experts say. The war, won by the Indian armed forces, led to the establishment of the new country of Bangladesh.
Many attempts have been made since then, but Islamabad failed each time. With Yunus at the helm and Jamaat-e-Islami in complete control, the ISI felt that this was the best time to implement its plan.
ISI achieved success with the ouster of Sheikh Hasina. He stood in the way of ISI making Bangladesh its playground.
Although the ISI played a role in the student uprising last August, it stepped up its activities after Sheikh Hasina fled the country.
An Intelligence Bureau official says the Dhaka Cell has been in office for a long time. His first agenda is to create as much unrest as possible in Bangladesh. For this, he must ensure that the Jamaat wins the election and if he thinks this is not possible, the next best option would be to postpone the elections.
But ISI’s bigger agenda is India. He wants to create strong terrorist cells in West Bengal and Northeastern states. In order to do this, it is aimed to make infiltration easier by putting pressure on the Indian security system.
The Dhaka Cell will be quite active in the coming months as it is planning something important ahead of the West Bengal elections scheduled to be held in March-April next year. The plan is to incite violence and create unrest in Bangladesh on a regular basis.
At the same time, the ISI would increase its activities on the Indian border to repel infiltrators. Indian security officials say they are well prepared for the situation ahead. “The work ahead is difficult, but we are capable of handling it,” one official said.
