Panel to study setting up of PHCs, CHCs: Dinesh Gundu Rao

Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao said that a committee has been constituted to conduct a study in accordance with the guidelines set by the National Health Mission and recommend locations for setting up Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and Community Health Centers (CHCs) in the State.

Replying to Member of Legislative Assembly Chandru Lamani on Thursday, Mr. Gundu Rao said that a committee led by Himanshu Bhushan, former official of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has already conducted a scientific study as per IPHS (Indian Public Health Standards) and NHM guidelines and given recommendations on setting up PHCs and THCs for Kalyana Karnataka district.

“The committee has now been asked to examine and recommend the establishment of PHCs and THCs across Karnataka,” he said.

The Minister stated that due to urbanization, the population in urban areas increased and decreased in rural areas.

To be filled

Earlier, responding to a question from Kushtagi MLA Doddanagouda Patil, Mr. Gundu Rao said that the vacant posts in PHCs, CHCs and taluk hospitals, including specialist doctors, medical officers, nurses and pharmacists, will be filled within a month.

Already, permission was given to fill the positions of 337 specialist doctors and 250 contracted health officers. Apart from this, steps were taken to fill 1,500 doctor positions within the scope of compulsory state service for students who completed their medical education under the state quota. He also said that the Ministry of Finance has approved the recruitment of 120 specialist doctors and 100 health officers and the process is continuing.
