The United States will send about 200 troops to Israel to support and monitor a ceasefire agreement in Gaza as part of a team of partner countries, nongovernmental organizations and private sector players, U.S. officials said Thursday. U.S. Central Command will establish a “civilian-military coordination center” in Israel that will help facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid as well as logistical and security assistance to the region devastated by two years of war, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss details that were not permitted to be disclosed.

Members of the armed forces of Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates are expected to join the team of 200 US soldiers, according to one of the officials. The news comes after the Israeli Cabinet earlier Friday approved President Donald Trump’s plan for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of all remaining hostages held by Hamas.
