A man was killed Saturday morning when a dump truck with mechanical issues crashed into his motorcycle on the 401 in North York.

Ontario Provincial Police say the collision occurred in the westbound express lanes near Allen Rd. shortly before 8 a.m.

“(The) dump truck lost its driveshaft, then collided with a motorcycle,” the OPP said in a message posted on X following the deadly crash.
“(A) 59-year-old motorcycle operator from Newmarket was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased,” police said, adding “no other injuries were reported.”

About an hour later, in an unrelated incident, the OPP say a pedestrian was killed on another 400 series highway in Richmond Hill.
The pedestrian was “attempting to cross” Hwy. 404 at Hwy. 7 and was struck by an SUV, the OPP said on X.

A 77-year-old from Toronto, whose gender was not revealed, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“One driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries,” the OPP said.
The investigations into both fatalities are ongoing and no further details were immediately released.
