A series of Israeli airstrikes hit at least five neighborhoods in central and coastal Beirut today, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported.

The Israeli army said in a statement: “The State of Lebanon and its civilians must reject Hezbollah’s establishment in civilian areas and their ability to accumulate weapons.”

The Lebanese Prime Minister criticized Israel’s renewed bombardment of his country, saying the attack ignored all peace efforts and humanitarian laws in the Middle East.

Nawaf Salam said on X after Israel bombed parts of Beirut: “Israel continues to expand its attacks targeting densely populated residential neighbourhoods.

“These attacks were indifferent to all regional and international efforts to stop the war” and showed “complete disregard for the principles of international law and international humanitarian law.”

UNHCR wrote about Lebanon, X: “One of the largest waves of Israeli attacks ever hit more than 60 sites in Beirut and beyond.

“Deaths are increasing. The destruction is huge. Civilians are paying the price again. They are not targets. They need to be protected.

“In less than 10 minutes, nearly 100 Israeli attacks were made on Lebanon without prior warning.

“Civilians are bearing the brunt, including Beirut neighborhoods where displaced people are currently sheltering. It is not possible to say enough: Civilians are not targets. They must be protected.”
