UK weather maps turn icy blue for -1C freeze after three-day ‘mini heatwave’ | Weather | News

Weather maps in the UK show a “mini heatwave” could end quickly this week as temperatures drop to freezing.
The Met Office is predicting a top temperature of 26C in the UK on Wednesday; Some 25 towns and cities will see temperatures of 20C or higher.
This will make them warmer than many holiday destinations in Europe, but this will not last for very long.
Forecasts look cold for the rest of the week, according to WXCharts, which uses MetDesk data.
Maps show the majority of the UK will have temperatures below 5C for most of Friday, with some areas even dropping to freezing point (0C).
However, the worst of the weather will come a few days later.
On Tuesday 14 April it is forecast to fall near or below freezing in large parts of Scotland; Temperatures drop to -2C or -3C in places, bringing the risk of frost.
Meanwhile, temperatures across large parts of northern England are expected to be between -1C and 0C.
Further south, much of England and Wales will see chilly conditions, generally between 1C and 4C, with only coastal areas remaining slightly milder.
Met Office Chief Forecaster Paul Gundersen said: “We are seeing a brief but notable stretch of very warm weather in early April, with temperatures more associated with late spring or early summer.
“This could be the warmest April since 2020, a year many will remember due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
“However, this warmth will be short-lived, with a significant drop in temperatures and more unstable conditions developing later this week. Daytime temperatures in some areas could drop by around 10C between Wednesday and Thursday.”
