Russell Brand charged with further counts of rape and sexual assault

Comedian Russell Brand will face two further charges – one of rape and the other of sexual assault – over alleged offenses against two women, the Metropolitan Police said.
The Crown Protection Service authorized further charges to be laid against the comedian following an investigation by Metropolitan Police detectives. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in connection with them on January 20 next year.
These new charges are in addition to charges filed against Brand in April 2025 involving four women, including two rapes, one indecent assault and two sexual assaults. He pleaded not guilty to these charges at Southwark Crown Court earlier this year and a trial is scheduled to begin on 16 June 2026 on these original charges.
Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi, of the Metropolitan Police, who is leading the investigation, said: “Women who reported, including those in connection with the two new charges, continue to receive support from specially trained officers.
“The Met’s investigation is ongoing and detectives are urging anyone affected by this case or with information to come forward and speak to police. A dedicated investigations team can be contacted by email at: CIT@met.police.uk.
“Support can also be provided through independent charity Rape Crisis by contacting the 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line.”
Detectives began investigating in September 2023 after receiving a number of allegations following Channel 4’s Dispatches and news. Sunday Times.
It was alleged that a woman was raped in the Bournemouth area in 1999, a woman was indecently assaulted in the Westminster area of London in 2001, and a woman was verbally raped and sexually assaulted in the same district in 2004. It was also alleged that a woman was sexually assaulted in Westminster between 2004 and 2005.
