ITV has been forced to apologize for airing an unedited clip of Gordon Ramsay swearing on a rerun of Food Stars USA.

The 59-year-old celebrity chef is known for his no-nonsense attitude and use of blunt language, which is regularly featured on his shows.

But an ITV error saw the f-word featured twice in on-screen captions at 8.25am in May. Sun reported.

While all swearing in the audio of the program was removed, those using subtitles saw the unedited accident during the broadcast.

Ofcom has a strict rule banning the most offensive language from being broadcast on TV before 9pm.

ITV2 has since apologized for the error and explained that the subtitles were created from an unedited version of the program to remove the offensive language.

The channel added that it has now added steps to ensure “any inconsistencies” between versions within the scheduling system are “visible and corrected” before broadcast.

But Ofcom was forced to reckon with ITV’s failure to apologize after the program ended.

Deeming the error a ‘clear breach’, the media regulator issued a written decision: ‘In this case, the publication of the remarks at 08:25 was a clear example of the most offensive language published before the landmark.

‘This was a pre-recorded programme, which ITV2 would have the opportunity to check before broadcast, and contained two examples of the most offensive language before the milestone.

‘We also assessed that ITV2 made no on-air apology following the broadcast.

‘Ofcom noted the steps the Licensee said it had taken since it was notified of the incident to prevent a recurrence in the future.

‘However, in Ofcom’s view these steps would not have affected the distress caused to viewers as a result of this particular broadcast.’

The Daily Mail has reached out to ITV for further comment.
