Former FBI Director James Comey was accused of allegedly threatening President Donald Trump, who shared a photo of seashells with the word “8647” written on them on his Instagram account last year, a source familiar with the matter told MS NOW.

The charges, which have not yet been made public, mark the second time Comey has been charged in a federal case since the start of Trump’s second term as president.

Trump shared the visual of the numbers in his post dated May 15 and accused Comey, whom he has seen as his long-time enemy, of “calling for the assassination of the president.”

“Eighty-six” is a term often used in the restaurant industry when production of a menu item is discontinued. Merriam-Webster online dictionary he says that in a broader sense it can mean “to remove, dismiss or remove (someone).”

Trump is the 47th president of the United States.

Comey denied at the time that he threatened Trump with the seashell post, and went on to write: “I didn’t realize some people associated these numbers with violence.” I already deleted it because he said, “I am against all forms of violence.”

The Trump administration investigated Comey for the social media post, but no charges were immediately brought.

But about four months later, he was indicted in Virginia for perjury and obstruction of Congress.

Comey denied the charges against Lindsey Halligan, Trump’s former personal attorney who was appointed interim U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.

In November, a federal judge dismissed the criminal case against Comey after ruling that Halligan had been appointed unlawfully.

Comey is one of Trump’s perceived enemies who has been indicted or federally investigated since Trump returned to office in January 2025.

In a social media post in September, Trump publicly called on then-Attorney General Pam Bondi to take action against Comey, New York Attorney General Letitia James and California Senator Adam Schiff, claiming “they are all so guilty.”

James was indicted weeks later on charges of bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution. When Halligan’s appointment was invalidated by a federal judge, his case was dismissed.

The Justice Department investigated Schiff regarding allegations of mortgage fraud, but the federal prosecutor reportedly said he did not believe there was enough evidence to charge Schiff.
