Jane Fonda says she should have honored Robert Redford at Academy ceremony

Jane Fonda is taking a dig at the Academy for choosing Barbra Streisand to honor Robert Redford during the Memorial portion of the ceremony.

After the big night, Fonda joked that she had “more to say” than Streisand because of her long history with the late actress.

“I want to know how Streisand was there doing that for Redford?” Fonda told Fun Tonight. He said Streisand had “only done one movie with him, I’ve done four! I have so much more to say.”

Fonda said she was “always in love with him. He’s the most amazing person and such great values. And he did so much for movies, he really changed movies, he brought independent movies to the forefront.”

ROBERT REDFORD DIED AT 89 YEARS OLD

The two had a friendship spanning more than five decades – Redford had a breakthrough role in Neil Simon’s “Barefoot in the Park,” first on the Broadway stage and then on the big screen with Fonda in 1967. Following Redford’s death, Fonda shared a statement.

“I was so touched this morning when I read that Bob was gone. I can’t stop crying. He meant so much to me and was a beautiful person in every way. He represented the America we must continue to fight for,” she said in a statement. People.

Following his passing, Streisand, who starred with Redford in “The Way We Were,” remembered both the on-screen chemistry and the connection they shared off-screen.

“Every day on the set of ‘The Way We Were’ was exciting, intense and pure joy,” Streisand said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “We were so opposite; he was from the world of horses; I was allergic to them! But we were still trying to learn more about each other, just like the characters in the movie.”

Reflecting on their last visit, Streisand shared a touching memory: “The last time I saw him, he came over for lunch and we discussed art and decided to send each other our first drawings.”

“He was one of a kind and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him,” he concluded.

In September, Redford died at the age of 89.

“Robert Redford passed away on September 16, 2025, at his home in Sundance in the Utah mountains, surrounded by his loved ones,” his representative told Fox News Digital. “We will miss him greatly. The family requests privacy.”

The Hollywood icon was best known for classics like “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and “The Sting.”
