Novak Djokovic quits Professional Tennis Players Association ahead of Australian Open

“I am proud of the vision that Vasek and I shared in founding the PTPA, giving players a stronger, independent voice, but it has become clear that my values ​​and approach are no longer aligned with the current direction of the organization.

“I will continue to focus on my tennis, my family and contribute to the sport in a way that reflects my principles and integrity. I wish the players and those involved the best as we move forward, but for me this chapter is now closed.”

The PTPA filed a letter with the United States Southern District Court in November stating that it was close to reaching an agreement with Tennis Australia, which confirmed the development at the time.

“The plaintiffs and Tennis Australia are engaged in substantive and productive bilateral settlement discussions and believe that a settlement regarding the plaintiffs’ claims against Tennis Australia is likely in the near future,” PTPA’s lawyers wrote.

Djokovic, the 10-time Australian Open champion, will compete at the Open again starting January 18.
