Lethal Weapon star Danny Glover reveals Alzheimer’s diagnosis | Film

Lethal Weapon actor Danny Glover has revealed that he has been living with Alzheimer’s disease for several years.
Glover, 79, revealed the news in an interview with The Today Show that he was diagnosed “not long after” after receiving an honorary Oscar in 2022. “In a sense, I can live with it. I’m sure things will become different and change as we move forward,” he said, adding that his movements, speech and memory are slowing down. However, the support of his family, to whom he said “watch my back”, kept him afloat.
In the interview, Glover’s daughter Mandisa added that it was “really important” for her to speak out on her own terms. “And now is the time. What better time than for him to speak up for himself? It’s important because people ask questions sometimes, and I don’t want to be a dishonest person and say, ‘Oh, yeah, everything’s fine. Everything’s great,'” he said.
Glover also spoke to People about his diagnosis, saying he “still can’t accept all the parts of it in my mind.” “There are moments that you continue to remember, which confirm the fact that you can remember things. And there are moments that I will never forget,” he said. Glover added: “It doesn’t feel like the end of my life. There’s work to be done. I still have my daughter, I still have my friends. I just want to say, your life goes on.”
Glover has accumulated more than 170 film and TV credits throughout his nearly 40-year career. His film acting debut came in 1979 in Escape from Alcatraz, but he rose to fame in the 1980s playing Roger Murtaugh opposite Mel Gibson’s Martin Riggs in the Lethal Weapon films. He later appeared in the films Places in the Heart, The Color Purple and Predator 2. He was awarded five Emmys and four Grammy awards.
Glover served as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Program from 1998 to 2004; He has worked on global campaigns against poverty, disease and HIV/Aids in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. Glover was also appointed as a Unicef goodwill ambassador in 2004.
