Japanese Volleyball Player’s Sliding Dogeza Apology Goes Viral

Japanese volleyball star Yuji Nishida fascinated netizens in a recently released video that showed him starting to apologize when his serve with his left hand hit a female staff member standing near the volleyball court.
The dramatic apology, somewhat reminiscent of dogeza, a traditional Japanese bowing gesture with the forehead touching the ground, used as an extreme expression of apology, took place at the SV League All-Star Game in Kobe, and the video has since gone viral.
He continued to slide quickly across the field towards her and bowed his head in a dramatic apology. Additionally, Nishida got down on his knees and continued to bend over. At one point he clenched his palms and apologized.
While one user wrote, “The transformation into a folding chair was amazing,” many people immediately noticed the familiar move from Japanese anime.
