UK touted as important partner as US uncertainty grows

A security analyst says Britain has become one of the most important defense allies of Australia in the midst of turmoil under Trump.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Defense Minister Richard Marles will host his UK colleagues David Lammy and John Healey for joint talks on Friday.

Alex Bristow, a senior analyst of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, said that the ministry meetings were rather than a six -month cycle rather than traditional annual timeline.

“The pace of this is a signal that Britain has entered into an exclusive category,” AAP said. He said.

Dr Bristow said that Britain’s defense relationship is strategically important for Australia, and the third behind Japan and the United States.

The British carrier strike group, led by the Royal Navy flagship Wales Prince, came to Darwin on Wednesday while Australia’s largest military exercise continued.

The first UK carrier strike group to visit Australia since 1997.

The flagship is an international task group with five basic ships, 24 jets and 17 helicopters gathered around the aircraft carrier.

British Australian High Commissioner Sarah Macintosh said that the arrival of the strike group is a demonstration of commitment to the region and a strong relationship with Canberra.

“This is an anchor relationship in a controversial world,” he said.

Dr Bristow said that Australia should meet carrier strike groups from European countries.

NATO said that he described China as a threat to his interests because Beijing continued to cooperate with Russia and North Korea.

Dr. “Working with European allies in NATO with the Indo-Pacific allies of NATO.” He said.

Within the scope of the AUKUS agreement, the US has promised to sell Australian nuclear -energy submarines and have been examined by the Trump administration since then.

The three -national pact, which includes England, will probably be discussed in high -level talks in Sydney.

Defense analysts believe that a possible outcome of the examination will demand more money from Australia to the US submarine industry base rather than scrapping the agreement.

The Australian government said he was confident in the nuclear submarin agreement.
