Jasmine Crockett called out over claim she’s among ‘535 most powerful’ in US

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, was called out on social media after claiming she was one of the 535 most powerful people in the country, citing her role in Congress.

Crockett spoke talk show host Sherri ShepherdHe asked Crockett about some of her viral moments in Congress, noting her run-in with former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

“There’s no preparation for this. But I’m a black woman in America. So… some people say: ‘But you’re a congresswoman.’ “I am a black woman first and foremost,” Crockett responded.

She continued, “The level of disrespect that’s constantly shown to us as black women, you know, I’m like, ‘Wait a minute now. I’m one of the 535 most powerful people in this country and for some reason you think we’re on the same level, but you’re going to disrespect me?’ Like, this isn’t going to happen.”

Crockett was called to claim as some noted that the Democratic Party was not in control of Congress.

Journalist James Surowiecki, a contributing writer for The Atlantic, wrote in reaction to Crockett: “He can’t believe that as a congressman from the party that doesn’t control the House, he is one of the 535 most powerful people in America.”

Actor Robert Sterling said Crockett’s comment was one of the funniest things he had ever heard.
