JD Vance warned the Iranian regime not to “try to play us” before heading to Pakistan for tough peace talks.
Leaving for Islamabad, where the talks are going to take place tomorrow (Saturday, 11 April), he said “if the Iranians are willing to negotiate in good faith, we’re certainly willing to extend the open hand. If they’re going to try to play us, then they’re going to find that the negotiating team is not that receptive”.
Special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will also attend. Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam said in a post on the X channel that the Iranian delegation will come to Islamabad for talks on Thursday night.
The post included the following statements: “Despite the skepticism of the Iranian public due to the Israeli regime’s repeated violations of the ceasefire in order to sabotage the diplomatic initiative invited by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Iranian delegation arrived in Islamabad tonight for serious talks based on the 10 points proposed by Iran.”
He said: “Ceasefire violations have been reported in several parts of the conflict zone, undermining the spirit of the peace process. I call on all parties to exercise restraint and respect the ceasefire for two weeks as agreed, so that diplomacy can take a leading role towards the peaceful resolution of the conflict.”
Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, condemned the ongoing conflict in Lebanon between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah forces. In his post on
“The world sees the massacres in Lebanon. The ball is in the US’s court and the world is watching whether it will fulfill its commitments.”
The ceasefire appeared fragile after Israel struck Lebanon, the UAE and Kuwait faced missile and drone attacks on Wednesday and Hezbollah opened fire on northern Israel early on Thursday.
The Middle East has been in conflict since February 28, when the United States and Israel launched a joint attack on many important regions of Iran. Iran retaliated by striking countries in the region and closing the critical oil trade route in the Strait of Hormuz.
Just 24 hours after the ceasefire agreement was announced, US President Donald Trump He vowed to “destroy” Iran. In a post on Truth Social late Wednesday, April 8, Trump confirmed that U.S. military personnel and ammunition will remain in place.
Part of the post read: “All U.S. Ships, Aircraft, and Military Personnel, together with additional Munitions, Weapons, and anything else appropriate and necessary for the lethal prosecution and destruction of an already greatly weakened Enemy, will remain in place in and around Iran until full compliance with the REAL DEAL reached.”
