JD Vance warns Joe Rogan that a socialist president could be inevitable

Vice President J.D. Vance warned in an interview Wednesday that if Republicans don’t correct the economic missteps of recent years, young people will elect a socialist president.

Vance responded by stating that in his book, “Community: Finding My Way Back to the Faith,” he laid out the historical norms of the Christian idea of ​​political economy that had been the norm for much of Western history and had been lost in recent American politics, avoiding the trappings of the free market and socialism.

Even if Vance hated socialism, he suggested that conservatives should try to understand why young people are drawn to socialism.

He went on to describe how in recent years the United States has “been running an experiment where we’re trying to do anything with low-wage foreigners, whether they’re in the United States through illegal immigration or outside of the United States through offshoring and outsourcing.” And what that leads to, I think, is a society where socialism is somewhat on the rise.

“We’re in a big hole because of 40 years of bad policy,” Vance said of his work to address underlying problems, arguing that today’s economic crisis cannot be blamed solely on the previous Democratic administration.

“This is 40 years of failed bipartisan leadership that has essentially created a kind of shell company out of the United States. We don’t produce enough of our own stuff. We don’t have enough self-confidence. Our workers don’t have enough bargaining power. That’s led to this kind of enthusiasm for socialism in many ways. And we have to continue to solve these problems.”

“Once again, I think we are heading in the right direction. Maybe people may disagree, but it will take years to solve this problem. If we don’t, we will be faced with a socialist president in this country.”

He argued that under President Donald Trump, such problems are at least starting to turn around.

“The idea that no one should own anything, that we should all be renters, whereas we’re trying to lower interest rates. You’ve actually seen housing prices stabilize in the country over the last year and a half, obviously due to immigration.” “There were too many people chasing too many houses. You’re closing the border. That’s one of the reasons why rent and housing costs have stabilized somewhat.

“So I think socialism is going to be the inevitable outcome unless you go the route of allowing young Americans to own things,” he said, noting that while many Republicans recognize that socialism is bad, they fail to understand what conditions drive young people to it.

Vance recalled a Thanksgiving conversation with friends that highlighted the problem; Here an engineer explained that he could not afford to buy a house in a safe area. Another friend said his childhood San Diego neighborhood, once full of military families, was now beyond the reach of even Marine officers.

“We ran the experiment of offshoring all our industrial businesses, becoming a service and finance economy, and allowing Wall Street to come in and buy every asset of modern life and turn it into an investable, ‘upstream’ asset,” he warned. “So what did it do? It created a generation of kids interested in socialism. We have to solve this problem.”

Ironically, Vance argued that democratic socialists are playing into the hands of big corporations while pushing to open borders.

“One of the reasons I’m such an immigration hawk is that it’s really important not to flood the country with low-wage immigrants,” he said.

Vance argued that workers have more negotiating power when immigration is restricted, adding, “So I think the DSA types are full of bullshit when they talk about helping regular people.”

“Corporations care about open borders way more than any other policy that DSA cares about. So while these people say they’re trying to fight for workers and they’re trying to fight for the working man, the real result of DSA policy is to flood the country with low-wage immigrants, and that’s going to destroy the middle class in this country.”
