Jeanine Pirro says evidence shows suspect shot officer at White House press dinner | White House correspondents’ dinner shooting

The U.S. government has evidence that a federal agent was shot by a suspect during the latest assassination attempt on Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, Jeanine Pirro, U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, said Sunday.

“We can now determine that the pellet from the defendant’s Mossberg shotgun was intertwined with the fibers of the Secret Service officer’s vest,” Pirro told CNN.

The suspect in the attack, 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, allegedly passed through the security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton hotel, where the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner was held.

The gunman then opened fire with a shotgun from outside the doors leading to the ballroom where the US president, First Lady Melania Trump and several senior cabinet members were gathered along with hundreds of journalists and guests.

Allen was charged last week with three federal crimes, including attempting to assassinate the president.

Allen shared posts on social media comparing Trump to Adolf Hitler and encouraged those who criticized his presidency to buy weapons. According to CNN. This dovetails with a document Allen allegedly sent to family members before the attack, in which he criticized the Trump administration’s policies, slammed security at the Hilton, and apologized to his family for his actions.

Prosecutors alleged in legal filings last week that Allen took a train from California to Washington with a shotgun, a .38-caliber handgun, a knife and daggers to carry out the attack.

The dossier stated that Allen was “willing to carry out a mass attack in a room full of the highest-ranking officials of the US government.”

Pirro added that a grand jury in the case will likely convene later this week. Before stated: “There is no doubt that there will be many, many more indictments once we attend the grand jury.”
