Jeffery Epstein acted as a relationship counsellor between Lord Mandelson and his then boyfriend Reinaldo Avila da Silva

Jeffrey Epstein served as a relationship advisor between Lord Mandelson and her then-boyfriend Reinaldo Avila da Silva.

In an emotional exchange, the politician said he was in a “fundamentally abusive relationship”. It is not clear who he is with.

She and Mr. da Silva have been together for almost three decades and married in 2023.

An email Mr Epstein sent to Lord Mandelson in July 2009 suggests the financier met Mr da Silva, 53, while he was serving the last few days of a prison sentence for promoting prostitution. Epstein was on a dismissal plan and could be released from jail within the day.

He wrote: ‘Spent an hour with Rinaldo [sic]. Call me at the office tomorrow.’

Lord Mandelson, 72, replied: ‘Thank you for speaking to Reinaldo. This helped him (and therefore me) a lot. Now you see the problems. ‘I definitely can’t talk about these issues with him, he doesn’t listen.’

Apparently referring to Mr da Silva, Epstein emailed Lord Mandelson that August to say he had “turned him down” and added: ‘You owe me. Osteopath school is.’

Epstein gave Mr da Silva £10,000 to take a course in osteopathy and cover expenses. Lord Mandelson emailed to say he was unsure how happy Mr da Silva was with the situation.

But Mr Epstein said he received a “very different” message from Mr da Silva, adding: “He said that’s what he wanted and that you were psychically interfering with all that good.”

In March 2010 Lord Mandelson frantically emailed Epstein: ‘I’ve had a bad mishap with R who has somehow gotten into my messages… What should I do?’

Epstein said his emails were ‘probably compromised’ and added: ‘Let’s talk.’

In December 2011, Epstein emailed his friend and said: ‘I’m sorry you’re so upset.’

It is not clear who Lord Mandelson was referring to when he replied: ‘I’m sorry too. Their moods and behaviors are very variable. It’s basically an abusive relationship.’

Lord Mandelson was asked to comment.
