Jemima Goldsmith blames builders for £1k fine over speeding driver

Jemima Goldsmith was found guilty of an encounter with the Metropolitan Police, who blamed her builders and was fined £1,000.
The TV producer has not responded to police letters after a Mini Clubman registered in his name was caught exceeding the speed limit in north London.
Goldsmith, 52, eventually named the guilty driver who was driving his car.
But by then he had missed the deadline to respond to avoid court action.
Goldsmith blamed major renovation work on his £10 million home in Kensington in a note to Westminster Magistrates’ Court explaining the error.
“Due to ongoing construction work at the property where my car was registered, making access difficult, the original letter was lost to the builders and I was unaware of its existence until October,” he wrote.
“As soon as I received the form, I filled it out and sent it back immediately.”
Court documents show Goldsmith named a man named Anthony Reilly, who lives in Switzerland, as the person who caught the Mini traveling from 40mph to 46mph on the A1 at Hampstead on August 25, 2025.
However, his response was dated November 4; that is, six days after the police deadline and two months after the first notification of a speeding ticket.
In a letter to the court, Goldsmith also mentioned that his mother, Lady Annabel Goldsmith, died in October 2025 at the age of 91.
“My on-duty PA was on annual leave in October and my mother died on the 18th of that month, so I was less aware of the whole thing than I normally am,” he wrote.
“I am very sorry for the delay and any inconvenience caused.
“I fully accept that the fine must be paid.”
Goldsmith was found guilty by magistrate Gladys Famoriyo of failing to provide information regarding the identity of the driver of the vehicle when required.
The judge imposed a £1,000 fine and six penalty points on his licence, and also ordered Goldsmith to pay £130 costs and a £400 victim surcharge.
Goldsmith, known professionally as Jemima Khan, is the founder of a TV production company and has worked as a screenwriter and magazine editor.
In 1995, she married former cricketer Imran Khan, who became the prime minister of Pakistan. They have two children together.
Documents lodged with Kensington and Chelsea Council show Goldsmith successfully applied for permission to carry out major renovations to his home in 2025, including the demolition and “major” rebuild of one of the luxury property’s wings.
He was sued for failing to detect a speeding driver in the Single Justice Procedure, a fast-track court process that removes defendants from having to appear in court and allows judges to decide on convictions and sentences behind closed doors.
Goldsmith was among 1,905 defendants convicted and sentenced for failing to identify the driver of a vehicle when contacted by police last week.
More than 330 of these defendants lost their driver’s license as a result of the conviction.
