Jenna Ortega to Star in Leos Carax’s Next Film ‘Lily May B’

Washington: According to Variety, Jenna Ortega will be taking on the lead role in renowned French filmmaker Leos Carax’s next feature film ‘Lily May B’, which is one of the most talked about projects promoted at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival. Scheduled to be released in Spring 2027, ‘Lily May B’ is Carax’s sequel to the 2021 romantic musical Annette, starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard, which opened Cannes and won Carax the Best Director award. The project will be the first collaboration between Carax and Ortega, who gained worldwide fame with Netflix’s Wednesday series and recently starred in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice movie. Produced by French producer Hugo Selignac under his Mediawan brand Chi-Fou-Mi Productions, the film is described as a dystopian and surreal road movie with a cryptic synopsis.
“Once upon a time, there was a little girl, a young woman, and a young boy. Each of them had a secret too heavy to carry. They met in the world of the end of the world, and together they rode on a big motorcycle, traveling through empty cities, deserted highways, and ancient forests. They encountered many dangers during their journey, but they continued on their way. To search for who they were; perhaps to seek a place for B?” read the synopsis, according to Variety. Describing the mysterious film, Carax said: “This is what once destroyed us, this is what allowed us to survive.” Carax, known for cult classics such as Holy Motors and Les Amants du Pont-Neuf, is expected to bring his dreamy visual style to the project. Speaking about the collaboration, Selignac said, “For me, one of the reasons I fell in love with Cinema is Leos Carax. It means a lot to me to have the chance to go on this first journey with him.” “‘Lily May B’ carries forward its unique vision with freedom, raw emotion and visual power. Today, it feels only natural to see this universe meet the immense talent of Jenna Ortega,” he added, according to Variety.
The remaining cast of the film is expected to be announced in September.
