Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana dropped as Your Party leaders

Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana cannot lead the new left-wing party they founded after members voted for a ‘collective’ led by a non-MP to make key decisions about its future.

The second option for a single traditional leader, with Mr Corbyn and Ms Sultana vying to lead your Party, was also rejected by members.

Instead, they voted by a slim margin of 51.6 to 48.4 percent for the party to adopt a “collective rank-and-file” leadership model that is not led by an MP for its first two years.

On Saturday, challenger Zarah Sultana refused to be “pushed” from your Party after boycotting the first day of the conference, accusing people within the organization of creating a “toxic culture” and citing a “witch hunt”.

Sultana, who had an extraordinary row at the party’s inaugural meeting, said he would not enter the main conference center in Liverpool on Saturday after one of his supporters, Kingston councilor James Giles, claimed he had been refused entry. Other members were expelled on Friday for allegedly being members of the Socialist Workers Party.

Ms Sultana welcomed the Your Party conference’s decision to choose a collective leadership model rather than a single leader, saying: “This party will be led by its members, not its MPs. This is just the beginning.”

But almost since the new group was announced, it has been torn apart by infighting and divisions.

His departure comes just a week after Adnan Hussain said he was withdrawing from the new party’s “steering process”, citing concerns about factionalism and “implicit bias” against Muslims.
