Jeremy Corbyn’s Your Party unveils options for new name | Politics | News

Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana’s newly formed party has chosen four options for its official name. The options will be put to a vote by members at the founding conference this weekend.

The outfit will give fans at the event in Liverpool the chance to choose between Your Party, Our Party, Popular Alliance and For the Many. Voting results will be announced Mr Corbyn On Sunday, November 30th.

The conference took place amid rising tensions following months of internal strife. The row between Mr Corbyn and Ms Sultana led to an unsuccessful membership launch and threats of legal action.

Former Labor MP Ms Sultana is understood to have spoken at a rally on Friday to which Mr Corbyn was not invited.

The North Islington Independent MP instead hosted a “night of politics and culture” to coincide with Ms Sultana’s event.

A spokesman for the party, which has by now been called Your Party, said the focus was on a “positive weekend, led by members” and that “Zarah and Jeremy are united in this vision”.

Meanwhile, some members were expelled from the party on Friday evening due to their membership in the Socialist Workers Party (SWP). They will no longer be able to attend the meeting.

It is understood there were concerns that SWP supporters were planning to disrupt the conference, but Your Party’s sources cited their dual membership as the reason for their expulsion. Membership of another national party is against party rules.

Four of your party’s MPs – Mr Corbyn, Ms Sultana, Shockat Adam and Ayoub Khan – are expected to speak at the event, as well as a number of grassroots community organizers and left-wing politicians from across Europe.

Among the key issues they hope to have resolved by the end of the conference is whether the union should adopt the traditional “single leader” model or the “lay” collective leadership model in its first two years.

More than 2,500 members have been selected to attend the event, where supporters will also debate whether the party should support “socialist” independent candidates in May’s local elections. The party says it now has a total of 50,000 members.

To set the tone on the eve of the conference, Mr Corbyn criticized the Government for “creating an economy of stress and despair”.

He said mental health problems had been made worse by Labour’s failure to tackle poverty and reduce the cost of living.

Mr Corbyn said: “Britain’s mental health crisis is a product of the political choices taken by this Government. This includes refusing to control private rents or ending energy robbery. This includes the war on disability and sickness benefits.

“And this includes a lack of real action on the climate crisis, which is causing great despair for young people.”

A public row broke out between Mr Corbyn and Ms Sultana earlier this year. promoted a system to receive payments for their new political unionsHe rejected it as an “unauthorized email”.

This led to Ms Sultana claiming she was facing a “sexist boys’ club” and saying she would instruct “specialist defamation lawyers”, but she later withdrew the threat and promised to “reconcile” Mr Corbyn.

The former Labor leader later launched an “official” membership portal.

On Friday, Ms. Sultana said: “I look forward to the founding conference of your Party, where we will work collectively towards our common socialist vision. We are building a new kind of party, rooted in a mass movement and democratically accountable to it.”
