Jharkhand Man Held for Killing Wife, Relative

A man in Jharkhand’s Khunti district allegedly kidnapped and killed his estranged wife and a relative following a dispute over taking their five-year-old son to his parental home, police said on Friday. The bodies of the woman and her relative were later found dumped under a bridge near Tajna River in Khunti police station area, Khunti SDPO Mangal Singh Jamuda said.

The identities of the deceased were stated as Neha Thakur (25) and Arun Kumar Rana (21), residents of Badgaon village in Lohardaga district.

Police said Neha and Arun went to his father-in-law’s house within Karanj police station limits in Gumla district to take his son to his parents’ house, after which they had an argument.

“We suspect that both of them were killed on Thursday night and the killers threw their bodies from the bridge. The bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital in Khunti for autopsy,” Jamuda said. he said.

The police officer said preliminary investigation suggested that the woman and her relative were allegedly killed by her husband Kundan Pramanik following an argument over taking the child to his parents’ house.

According to the police, when Nehal and Arun were returning on a motorcycle after an argument, they were allegedly stopped by Pramanik, a resident of Dudiya village in Gumla district, and three to four others.

Police allege the defendant forced both victims into a vehicle, attacked them with a sharp weapon and threw their bodies off a bridge before attempting to disfigure their faces.

SDPO said that the woman was living separately from her husband and the alimony case between them was ongoing in court. An FIR has been registered against the accused and others and a detailed investigation is on, police said.
