Jim Wallace death: Scotland’s first-ever deputy first minister dies aged 71

Scotland’s first deputy prime minister, Jim Wallace, died due to complications from surgery, his family announced.
Lord Wallace passed away from unforeseen complications while undergoing a planned major operation at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on Thursday.
His wife, Rosie Wallace, said: “The family were so shocked by Jim’s death. It happened so suddenly. He was still incredibly active in so many areas.”
Since Lord Wallace’s death was announced, tributes have been pouring in for the 71-year-old.
Scottish Conservative leader Russel Findlay posted on social media: “The sudden and premature loss of a true giant and gentleman of Scottish politics. Our condolences to Jim’s family and friends from the Scottish Conservatives.”
