Joondalup Health Campus: $307m public expansion of finished as 60 new beds open

The final phase of the $307.9 million expansion of the Joondalup Health Campus has officially been completed, with 60 new medical and surgical beds now available for public use.

The new beds comprise two wards built over two floors of the new six-storey public ward block, which also includes 46 new public beds, including a 16-bed cardiac care unit and a 30-bed medical and surgical ward.

The first of the new beds opened on Tuesday, May 19, and the rest will come into operation on Monday, May 25.

The hospital’s expansion began in 2021, bringing more emergency room beds, new inpatient beds for medical, surgical, mental health and cardiac patients, and a new operating room.

It also provided two interventional catheterization laboratories, expanded pre- and post-operative facilities, a new discharge lounge, additional car parking and expanded support facilities.

The State and Federal governments jointly funded the project in partnership with Ramsay Health Care, which operates the hospital; The State contributed $149.9 million and the Federal Government contributed $158 million.

Joondalup MLA Emily Hamilton said the latest addition of 60 beds to complete the expansion was a huge boost for Perth’s growing northern suburbs and beyond.

“The two new wards at the Joondalup Health Campus will benefit not only residents of the growing communities in Perth’s northern suburbs, but also the wider community heading into winter,” Ms Hamilton said.

“This expansion will create additional hospital beds as well as new jobs for healthcare workers in the northern suburbs.”

Approximately 72,700 public admissions were recorded at Joondalup Health Campus in 2025. The hospital currently has around 600 public beds.

With the $166 million expansion of a dedicated portion of the health campus, which opened in February 2026 and was funded by Ramsay, the hospital is now one of Australia’s largest health campuses.

WA Ramsay Health Services operations manager Dr. James Cafaro said the project was completed on budget and ahead of schedule and marks the end of the current expansion, although some parking lot improvements remain.

“Ramsay is committed to ensuring the Joondalup Health Campus is well placed to care for its community and this expansion has greatly increased capacity for those living in our northern suburbs,” Dr Cafaro said.

“Ramsay is currently expanding its staff car park, which is expected to be completed in September, and Perth Radiology Clinic is expanding its on-site facility to provide care for our patients.”
