Jordan Staal scores twice as Hurricanes beat Golden Knights in Game 4

The Carolina Hurricanes tied the Stanley Cup Final once again thanks to Jordan Staal’s two-goal night, defeating the Golden Knights 5-3 in Game 4 in Las Vegas.
The series currently stands at 2-2, with Game 5 set to return to the Lenovo Center in Carolina on Thursday to see who will dominate in this pivotal on-ice showdown.
This game did not need overtime like the previous two games, but it needed someone to break the 3-3 tie between the opponents in the third period.

With 13:39 left in Game 4, Shea Theodore forced a disastrous turnover in the Golden Knights’ own zone and Hurricanes star Seth Jarvis made it right in front of the net.
Luckily for Vegas, Carter Harter stopped Jarvis’ backhand, but the threat was yet to be deflected. Jarvis scrambled to get the puck back up front and the ball fell on the stick of Nikolaj Ehlers, who attempted to lob it to Staal.

Staal lost his skating edge, but that didn’t stop him from firing a shot towards the goal with the back of his own hand. He just passed by Hart and celebrated with Staal still on the ice. He became the first player in 44 years to score in each of the first four games of the Stanley Cup Final.
However, the way these matches were going, a one-goal victory was not safe. This time, however, the Hurricanes had head coach Brandon Bussi defend Rod Brind’Amour instead of Frederik Anderson and make a timely save, and the decision paid off.
The Golden Knights had 20 shots on goal, and Bussi saved 7 of his shots in his first on-ice appearance for Carolina in this series. And Ehlers sealed the victory by smartly knocking the puck out of his own zone, where he walked into an empty net at the other end for a 5-3 victory.

The Hurricanes came out roaring in the first period as well, scoring three goals from captain Mark Stone to the Golden Knights’ goal. Logan Stankoven got his 11th of these playoffs just 1:06 into the game. Jackson Blake quickly followed up with a goal assisted by Taylor Hall and Ehlers.
Then Staal’s first goal of the game came on the power play at 12:48 of the period. Shayne Gostisbehere shot on goal and after Hart made the save, Staal was the first to find the puck and shot clear right in front of the goal.
Leading 3-1 after the first 20 minutes, the Hurricanes needed to feel good. But again, no lead is safe, and Vegas reminded them of that in the second period.

While William Karlsson got closer to Vegas with his third goal of the play-offs, Brett Howden added the Conn Smythe Trophy and scored his 14th goal to tie the score at three.
After all, Staal’s heroism for the Hurricanes is why he has the letter “C” on his sweater.
