JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon Just Issued a Warning to Wall Street. The Famed Banker Sees 3 Big Risks, and They Couldn’t Be Any Clearer

Few people are more respected in the financial world JPMorgan Chase (NYSE:JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon. He has run the company for nearly two decades, first steering it through the Great Recession largely unscathed and then turning it into the largest bank in the United States by assets. JPMorgan Chase now generates some of the highest returns among its peers, which has earned it a premium valuation.

For all these reasons, the market tends to listen when Dimon speaks. Dimon issued a warning to Wall Street in his annual letter to shareholders this year. The famous banker listed the three biggest risks and they couldn’t be clearer.

Given the current climate, it’s no surprise that Dimon cited geopolitics as one of the biggest risks. Major issues include the Iran War and broader conflicts in the Middle East, the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, and rising tensions with China in particular.

In particular, the Iranian War caused an increase in oil prices. While Dimon hopes that all current conflicts can be resolved, he points out that “the enemy also has the right to vote.” Dimon added that it’s not just a energy. Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz also affects fertilizer and helium prices, causing serious disruptions in food, shipbuilding and agriculture in many countries.

Dimon also noted ongoing problems with tariffs and trade negotiations, especially given already inflated asset prices. President Donald Trump’s announcement of significant taxes on April 2025, known as “Emancipation Day,” triggered a massive stock selloff. The Iran War triggered this year’s sales. It’s interesting to think about where the market might be without these two problems.

Investors should understand that all these current issues will have long-term effects. While how trade negotiations ultimately play out could have major consequences for economic growth, developments in the Strait of Hormuz will also impact global supply chains in the long term.

While issues surrounding private credit, which includes various types of nonbank loans, are now widely discussed in the media, Dimon has been warning about this trend for years. Private lender operating outside banking systemIt has managed to steal market share from banks that have been burdened by increased regulations since the Great Recession.
