Father banned from school after launching fiery tirade at students, teachers amid daughter’s alleged bullying row

A man who tried to take his daughter’s school bullying nightmare into his own hands has been banned from visiting the school grounds for a year after a series of ugly confrontations.

The Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) upheld the decision to impose the 12-month ban, describing his actions as “disgusting” and “disgusting”.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, failed to challenge the ban at a hearing earlier this year.

QCAT member Christopher Taylor described the man’s actions as “appalling” and said they “cannot be considered reasonable in any circumstances”.

The father sought to justify what he saw as the school’s inaction following complaints that his daughter was being bullied by another pupil, according to the QCAT ruling published last month.

“He has failed to satisfy me in all respects that he could easily repeat such behavior or similar behavior unless he was banned from school,” Mr Taylor said in the decision.

The man, who was cautioned for “unacceptable behavior” towards another parent in August 2022 and June 2023, was banned from school for 60 days after being involved in an “altercation” on school grounds (also unidentified).

He was involved in other incidents in May this year, when he confronted a teenage student for allegedly bullying his daughter and a teacher he accused of not acting on his family’s complaint.

He was banned from school for a year, but applied to QCAT to have the ban shortened so he could attend his child’s graduation.

According to the court’s decision, the man confronted the young student for allegedly bullying his daughter.

The man told the student, “Next time you come near my family… and harass her daughter, I will make your sister harass you too.”

“Understand? We’ve been through enough. Stay away from our family.”

The next day, he confronted teachers in the administration office during an expletive-filled tirade.

“No problem; run the school the way you do,” the man said, according to court documents.

“Say hello to social media ’cause I’m gonna take all your fucking jobs, fuck your fucking jobs… and if you ever touch (his daughter) again, I swear to God I swear to God, keep your hands off my kid.

Child and adolescent psychologist Clare Rowe argues Australian schools should be held more “accountable” for bullying incidents within their institutions.

“Understand? Don’t touch my child.”

The man attempted to argue that he did not threaten the other student and that his actions did not warrant disciplinary action.

He also sent an email to the school expressing his regret.

However, on the same day, he also got into a conflict with the school deputy principal, which he recorded and later uploaded to social media.

The court upheld the one-year ban, describing the act of confronting the young student as “frightening” and “threatening”.

Mr Taylor said: “His actions must be condemned as disgusting… An adult should never approach a young child in this way.”

“There is no justification. It should be a matter of warning.”

Mr Taylor said there was “no justification” for the abusive and vulgar language he used towards school staff, despite claiming he was disappointed the man did not take action against bullying allegations.
