JR NTR and Dhanush Head for Murugan Showdown

An unexpected clash is brewing between Tollywood and Kollywood. While Jr NTR and Dhanush are definitely not at war personally, it looks like an interesting rivalry has begun over the mythological films they will headline.

Recently, director Trivikram Srinivas announced his dream project starring Jr NTR. The makers announced through a poster that the film will be set in a divine backdrop. Jr NTR’s social media post also confirmed that the story revolves around Lord Kartikeya (Skanda), the commander of the heavenly army and the god of war.

Now, acclaimed filmmaker Vetri Maaran has announced a new film titled Thamizh Murugan starring Dhanush. The makers have also released the first look of the film. Lord Kartikeya is widely worshiped as Murugan, especially in Tamil Nadu, and this look shows that this project is also based on mythology and divinity.

The announcement sparked discussions about a potential Trivikram-Vetri Maaran match. Thamizh Murugan was a complete surprise; Few expected a leading Tamil filmmaker to also announce a project based on the same deity.

“Dhanush’s announcement came as a big surprise,” says the Telugu filmmaker. “The clash between the two films based on Lord Murugan now seems inevitable. While the Telugu team has only released a concept poster and made an official announcement, the makers of Thamizh Murugan have already unveiled Dhanush’s first look, which shows him on an elephant. They seem to be ahead in the race at this point.”

He adds that the subject of Murugan has always had deep emotional significance for Tamil audiences, but hardly anyone predicted that a prominent filmmaker like Vetri Maaran would tackle the same story.

“This is an unexpected change. In the end, the better film will prevail and win the love of the audience,” he says.

Meanwhile, Vetri Maaran may complete Thamizh Murugan before starting his project with Trivikram Jr NTR. The acclaimed director is known for his disciplined and efficient working style.

“Once a film is on stage, it often continues to progress until completion,” says the filmmaker.

In such a situation, Trivikram may have to rethink his plans or make significant changes in his script. “We have to wait and see. Both the films are reportedly inspired by Lord Murugan/Kartikeya and going by their announcements, the core premise of the two projects seems strikingly similar,” he concludes.
