Kavya Maran’s SRH set to release Mohammed Shami as LSG, DC clash in fierce trade war

Kavya Maran’s Sunrisers Hyderabad are set to release Mohammed Shami ahead of IPL 2026, triggering a fierce trade war between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals. Shami’s next goal has become one of the most talked about topics as both teams are aggressively pursuing the experienced pacer.
While the spotlight shines on the deal between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) involving Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja, another Indian cricket star Mohammed Shami could be on the verge of a transfer in the next 48 hours, just before the holding deadline for the teams, which is set for Saturday, November 15.
Shami was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for an impressive sum of Rs. 10 crore but his performance this season has been disappointing. The 35-year-old fast bowler managed to secure just six wickets in 10 matches, coupled with a high economy rate of 11.23.
There have been persistent rumors in recent weeks that SRH are likely to release him as they look to free up funds for the upcoming auction, aiming to revitalize their squad after a 6th-place finish in 2025.
According to a report from Cricbuzz, Shami has attracted interest from two teams who are in talks with the 2016 champions, but SRH is yet to make a decision. The report suggests that SRH is weighing its options, including the possibility of including Shami in the auction rather than finalizing the trade.
The report also suggests that if a deal is made with Delhi Capitals (DC) or Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), it will be an all-cash transaction. This will allow SRH to increase its auction budget by Rs. 10 crore. Conversely, if Delhi or Lucknow secure the star bowler, they will have to allocate the same amount to complete the purchase.
Shami previously played for the Capitals, also known as Delhi Daredevils, between 2014 and 2018. He started his IPL journey with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2013 and then moved to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 2019 and played there till 2022. His most successful stint in the league came with Gujarat Titans and he played a crucial role in their championship win. He clinched the purple cap in 2022 and later in 2023.
