‘Jumanji’ actor James Handy’s girlfriend’s son charged with his murder

The son of James Handy’s girlfriend has been charged with murder after the actor was found stabbed to death outside his Tarzana home.
Michael Gledhill, 44, faces up to 26 years to life in prison if convicted, according to a press release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman released the following statement: “The life of someone who was stabbed in the chest and left for dead in the front yard of a home should not have ended this way. The victim, James Handy, deserved to spend his later years enjoying what he worked so hard for and enjoying it with those he loved and cared about.”

The statement continued: “Like all murder victims, her life mattered, and the person who took it in an inexplicable and violent manner must be held accountable for their actions.”

Gledhill was charged with one count of murder with the specific allegation that he personally used a deadly weapon, a knife, the press release said.

Actor Handy, known for a variety of roles in films such as “Jumanji” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” was killed early Wednesday morning. According to police, a 911 caller said: “I am a human being, I just killed the man of sin.”
When officers arrived at the scene, they found 81-year-old Handy unconscious in the front yard with a stab wound to the chest. Officials said Handy was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to investigators, Gledhill flagged down officers when they arrived and told them he was the person they were looking for.

Police said Gledhill lived at the home with his mother, who was Handy’s girlfriend.

Gledhill was arrested and sent to Van Nuys Jail. murder charge. Bail was set at $2 million.
