“The whole world, at least the whole world that was paying attention to this, looked at this and thought Justin and Jamie and the others involved were terrible people, and it was really incredible to be able to get past that narrative and say, ‘Hey, these guys are really good people. They’re really meaningful people, they’re honorable, they’re honest, they’re kind. And not only were they sexually harassed, there wasn’t a smear campaign going on.’ And it was really important that we could talk about it, that customers could talk about it.“
Freedman explained that the circumstances surrounding the public narrative led to an unusual legal strategy. Rather than keeping the documents secret, he and his team made the records public and encouraged people to review the materials themselves.
“I have personally never been involved in a case where someone laid out everything in the case and said, ‘Here it is, decide for yourself’, in fact I have never witnessed such a case in my 30+ years of experience.‘”

Lively and the producers of “It Ends With Us” have reached a comprehensive settlement that ends nearly all of their legal battles; both parties agreed to drop their claims and waive future appeals. The settlement left one major issue unresolved: whether Lively could recover her attorney fees and receive additional financial compensation.
A judge later ruled that Lively could recover her attorney and lawsuit fees, but rejected her offer to triple her damages and seek punitive damages.

Freedman said Baldoni faces a tough challenge against some of the industry’s most influential names.
“I think the case reveals that it’s really hard to go up against powerful people who have financial ties and relationships with studios, networks, media and talent agencies, management companies,” Freedman said. “When you counter, you know, what real movie stars are, right? Who are really high-profile people, and there’s someone who’s your client that almost no one has ever heard of. I mean, Justin hadn’t done anything before, but he was nothing like the other side.”
